2012: End of the World? Postscript

Many of us may be caught up with the idea the end of the world is near. Some of us may believe that on 21 December 2012, something cataclysmic will befall the earth we live in, obliterating everything in its path.

The truth is that none of us humans actually know when the world shall end, despite claims to the contrary. Consider this: can any person tell with precision just what would happen the next day, or even the next moment?

Having said that, the current cultural fixation with 2012 provides us with a reminder to live life to the fullest, and to return to first principles of what exactly we mean by the end of something. Some of us may have the assumption that the end of something is just that in itself, and nothing more. Perhaps a more accurate description is to consider the end of something as the beginning of something else.

For instance, a living seed does not remain as such, but becomes a seedling, and then a plant, which ultimately bears more seeds. If we slow down the process, we can notice that the seed actually ceases to exist as a seed, while it is being transformed into a seedling. The seedling grows, and when it develops flowers and bears fruit, it is no longer considered as a seedling, but an adult plant in its own right. The adult plant gives of itself until its time expires, leading seeds as its legacy.

While most of us may be worried and apprehensive of the future (especially 2012) and what troubles it may herald, it would be wise to remain calm and trust in the opportunities that may present themselves in the most unexpected of situations. Despite the talk of gloom and doom in popular media, 2012, perhaps more so that any other time, promises transformation across the globe, a little at a time.

The challenge for individuals is then to notice these increasing pockets of change all around them, to question earnestly just what these changes mean to their lives, and to realise that the era of social isolation is coming to an end.

The Unity Wheel welcomes you to visit our community during our fortnightly sessions. These are opportunities to engage in meaningful discussions, to apply practical tools, so that you may cope effectively with the state of increasing flux sweeping nations across the globe. Attend the next available workshop. and stay tuned for further updates!

The first in the Unity Workshop series was held on 2nd August 2011 7.30pm, at Singapore Council Of Women's Organisations (SCWO) Centre.

During the interactive 2-hour workshop, participants discussed their views on 2012 and how they felt about the future.

They also experienced a process that helps them remain centred, which they can apply and use throughout their daily lives.

Thanks to all participants and Inner Circle members for being with us during this Complimentary Event. The next workshop entitled "Unity: Embracing Oneness" is scheduled for Tuesday 16 August 2011
